World Oceans Day Beach Cleanup

The Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems would like to invite everyone to come on out and help remove trash off of one of our most needed beaches in the county, Jetty Park in Fort Pierce Florida from 8 am to 10 am. The event will be set up at the south pavilion on the beach near the restaurants. We will supply all beach cleanup materials such as pickers, buckets, gloves, and trash bags. Afterwards, feel free to stay for refreshments and food.

This cleanup event is FREE, however, it does not include admission to the aquarium. Registration is not required.

World Oceans Day Beach Cleanup and Outdoor learning classes

The Department of Environmental Affairs will join the global community to celebrate the annual World Oceans Day in Port Elizabeth on 8 June 2019.

In partnership with the Eastern Cape provincial Department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs (DEDEA), the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM), the Nelson Mandela University, the Benguela Current Convention (BCC) and a number of local NGOs, the department will conduct a beach clean-up and an awareness campaign focusing on historically disadvantaged communities and schools around the Metro.

 As part of the day’s activities, DEA will also host learners from schools in and around the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. The department and its partners will expose learners to information about oceans, marine pollution and careers in the marine sector.

World Oceans Day is a reminder of the pivotal role oceans play in regulating the earth’s ecosystems and the threats oceans face.

World Oceans Day Celebration

Our World Oceans Day celebration will take place on June 1, at Hideaway Hollow in the Wildlife Museum.  There we have installed the Paly Foundation's Coral Reef Exhibit near our salt water aquarium.  Along with using the Coral Reef Exhibit for educational purposes we will also be doing a shark bean bag toss, creating octopus rings, displaying a World Oceans Day banner that people can sign to pledge to reduce single-use plastic.

World Oceans Day Celebration

Saint-Petersburg Oceanarium will hold the events with the Regional Center of Culture and youth initiatives of Lomonosov district. On June 8, 2019 we're going to the hamlet Big Izhora, which is located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland close to Saint-Petersburg, for a beach clean-up.

Together we plan:

  • to clean the coast;
  • to organize educational lectures about the ocean pollution;
  • to organize children's games, contests and master classes;
  • to  reward the participants of the event with souvenirs and gifts.

World Oceans Day Celebration

The Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF) and the Albatross Task Force Project, managed by the NNF are celebrating World Oceans Day, the biggest World Oceans Day event in Namibia, taking place in Walvis Bay from the 7 to 9 of June. The ATF Project from the 28th to the 6th of May were visiting schools in Walvis Bay and in Swakopmund, to raise awareness on ocean conservation, world oceans day and the work that the Albatross Project does on sea.

On the 7th, a beach clean-up campaign was held at the Independence Beach in Walvis Bay with marine organisations and over 200 learners from various schools in the town.

The official event with the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Honourable Bernhardt Esau is on the 8th and 9th June, and one of the fun activities for the event is a soccer tournament, with men and women on teams - covering gender and oceans.
