An Invitation to Write About The Sea - Poems and Pictures

We invite children to write an eight line poem on particular topics and this years was inspired by the BBC Blue Planet 2. We were appalled at what is happening with our oceans, negatively affecting our sea and sea creatures.

We have had thousands of entries from primary age children. We believe education from the earliest age possible will help improve their understanding of the world around them.

Our winning poem for 2018 is The Bottle Fish is penned by Antonio Mo. We ordinarily include two topics for the chidlren to write about and from 2019 this will include an environmental topic each year. Entries for the next initiative will open 7th January 2019. However for the Oceans topic we will open entries from today 8th June until 30th April 2019. We will announce the winning Ocean/Sea related topic on World Oceans Day 2019 in support.

This initiative is 'not for profit' and a national poetry book is published each year with a selected number of poems that are showcased in an A4 size brightly coluoured book with £1.00 per book sale donated to the children's charity Barnardo's. We have an amazing panel of judges, made up of authors, illustrators, BBC Presenters, musicians, who all volunteer their time.
